A waste audit of 40 temples in the city found they generate around 5,600 kg of waste every week. All 70 temples un der the muzrai department will undertake the waste management exercise in the coming days. The department will extend the campaign to all its 34,000 temples in the state. The department has tied up with BBMP to dispose of dry waste at recycling units.
Delhi’s National Museum turned into India’s largest repository of antique jewellery when “Alamkara”, the gallery that was last functionable in 2006 reopens in Delhi. The exhibition showcase 5,000 years of antique jewellery. The oldest jewels, dating between 2600 and 1900 BCE, belong to Indus Valley civilization Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro.
The collection had different themes & follows chronology.
First glass-case showcasing objects of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, the next segment on Taxila has jewels from the 1st century CE. Further, the gallery has cases with themes such as ‘God’ (jewels seen on deities) and ‘Maharajas’ in the next two glass cases. Next comes typology, ornaments worn from head to toe. Then there is a set of four glass cases, displaying the stylistic difference of articles from the country’s north and south.There are also exhibits showing the flora and fauna used in ornamentation.
